Following the DLD Conference live

Like many other Berliners, i ventured down South to Munich to attend the DLD conference. And just as i would often overhear at dinner and parties yesterday, i, too believe that DLD is the best conference about the digital space in Europe, period! At least the best i have ever attended. There are many reasons for this and I will write a detailed blog post making the case at the end of the conference tomorrow. But let me tell you that one reason is the quality of the talks and that is something everyone around the world can enjoy live as well, no need to buy a plus 3.000EUR conference ticket for that.

Follow the DLD here for live news and talks:

“MADE IN BERLIN” BADGE CONTEST

More and more Berlin startups design “Made in Berlin” badges for their websites and thus publicly showing their love for this great city (examples below).

ABOUT TIME TO MAKE A CONTEST FOR THE BEST DESIGNED BADGE

The Goal

The goal is to show off the city’s design skills and have the community vote for their favorite badge.

It is not that we want to find the one-badge-for-all-solution that all startups should be using in the future. We do however ask all entrants to make their badge publicly available to everyone so that those startups who do not want to create their own badge can adapt someone else’s.

Prize Details
First and foremost the winner will get lots of street cred of course!

Apart from that: The soon to be opened Ahoy! Berlin is a co-working space with a real jewel inside. It comes equipped with an old cinema with 80 original velvet seats. The winner can host an event at this awesome location at no rental cost. Second and third places will get cool T-Shirts for the entire design team.

Skype a founder #8: Edial Dekker, Founder & CEO, Gidsy (includes a private tour of their new office!)

Gidsy, together with Readmill, is surely one of the most anticipated new startups in Berlin. The p2p marketplace for authentic experiences is said to launch very soon, but organizers can already create their listings.

Former Etsy designers and founders of acclaimed design agency Your Neighbours, the founding team takes design seriously. Finally we are seeing a trend in Berlin towards functional AND beautiful design - it took long enough! A great example of their design work is their handbook on making the perfect listing on Gidsy.

The Skype A Founder interview above includes a private tour of their great, new office!

up.front meet-up with presentation by Caitlin Winner, Co-Founder & CPO at Amen

Yesterday TechBerlin checked out the up.front web design meet-up that was held at co.up in Kreuzberg. There were at least 80 people present. Maybe more people could have attended if the gates had not closed by 8pm :-).

The closing speech was held by Caitlin Winner, co-founder of Amen which has launched on iTunes last Monday. As design plays an important role for Amen, it was very exciting to hear Caitlin talk about her sources of inspiration in design. You can watch her slides and comments above. Let us know what you think?
